A Place for Parents and their Children

About Ontario Early Years Centre

Our Journey

In 1999, the provincial government released the Early Years Study that identified the important role that early brain development had in children’s health and wellbeing.  The report cited a positive correlation between early learning and parenting opportunities, increased brain development and commitment to life long learning.

From these findings a number of recommendations were made, including the development and introduction of community-based early child development and parenting centres or Ontario Early Years Centres.

A call for proposals was issued and York Region Neighbourhood Services, Social Enterprise for Canada's former name, was successful in its bid for the operation of one of these centres.
